Dougga is the most completely preserved Roman city in North Africa — often called the African Pompeii. Unlike Pompeii it was never buried; it was simply abandoned, its stones left exactly where they fell. The Capitol Temple, dedicated to Jupiter, Juno and Minerva, crowns the hilltop with six Corinthian columns intact. Below it: streets, baths, a forum, a theatre and private villas — all spread across a hillside with views over terraced olive groves.
